Blessed be Your Name

Tonight while worshiping at church, we began to sing a familiar song.
I remembered the first time I heard it played
in chapel, freshman year.

"Blessed be Your Name" quickly became the theme song for chapel that year.
Every time I sing that song, I am taken back to that time in college
when I was learning to trust (oh wait... I still am)
and bless the Lord's name in joy and sorrow.

I love the honest proclamation in this worship song.
The raw faith, even in times of despair.
Every time the band started playing it,
I used to look to my roommate and smile.
She knew, there was something about that song.

Now, years later, I can still sing the words with confidence.
Although I still have much to learn
I know that no matter what the circumstances
Lord, Blessed be Your Name.

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
