Home cooking

My conversation with my mom on Wednesday...

me - "Hi Mom"
mom - "Hi Jordy! .... is Johnny home?"
me - "No. He has to stay tonight too."
mom - "Oh no! Poor guy! What a bummer!"
me - "I know. So I don't know what I'm gonna do for dinner."
mom (at same time) - "Did you want dinner?"
both - laugh
me - "Yah. I gotta go home and feed Emma first. Then I'll come over."
mom - "You don't have to stay. You can eat and run if you need to."
me - "Ok, see you in 20-25 minutes!"
mom - "I can't wait to see you!"

Seriously, I love my mom. She fed me two nights this week while my J was away. I was out of food (not literally, but it felt like it!) and didn't wanna spend any money... and Mom came through. Twice. I love that I can call my mom and she knows what I'm gonna ask before I ask it. She never pressures me to do anything, but welcomes me to do everything. I can invite myself along to do pretty much anything she is doing in a moment's notice, and I feel like I was included from the beginning.

Thanks for dinner, Mom... twice.
Thanks for always answering my calls.
Thanks for knowing my schedule.
Thanks for the 5-10 minute catch up chats when I'm driving from place to place.
Thanks for your morning "Good luck today Jordy, I love you" text messages.
Thanks for the open invitation to do, or eat, or be, or talk, or hang out and do nothing.
Thanks for checking on Emma on short notice.
Thanks for trying to feed her.
Thanks for being my mom.
Thanks for loving me.

I love you too.

A full house once more

John was out of town for work most of this week and some of last... and a few weeks ago... poor J has had quite a few business trips recently. But he is finally home!! I have learned a few things about myself in this process.

I am ok on my own.
I can take care of myself.
And Emma.
And Luigi.
And the fish.
I can sleep by myself, and I can wake up to my alarm by myself.
I can go to school and come home and eat on my own.
I am a big girl.
I don't like it though.

Everything is so much better with my husband.
I sleep better when J is here.
Waking up is much more pleasant.
Meals are better with someone else.
I love to come home to J.
And I love to welcome J home.
I love to talk about our days in the evenings.
My husband adds so much to our home, our family, and to my life.
I love him more than anything.

Welcome home, sweetheart. I missed you.
"So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Emma's nursing class

I had (and still have) quite a few tests this week and next. And while my J did very well for awhile while I taught him all about the Epstein-Barr virus and thrombocytopenia and Pernicious anemia, he needs a little break. So, I must thank my amazing dog for stepping in. Emma has been so gracious to let me teach her about pathophysiology and med-surg and most recently, nursing. Thanks, Em, for your patience and enthusiasm. Love you pretty girl. (you too hun :)

10 moments

Today, I was reminded why I love Saturdays:
1. I actually accomplish a little studying (a dent in the pile)
2. I found the bike I want
3. Sister visits (praise the Lord for her awesome roommate)
4. The never ending pasta bowl and I met again (8 days left folks)
5. Meals, and time for conversation, with my sweetheart
6. Much needed highlighter runs at heaven on earth
7. AM and PM walks with my favorites
8. House... two episodes in a row (Cameron rocks my socks)
9. Cuddle time with my little one... and my other one :)
10. And everything else... great conversations, encouragement, hugs, yummy food, lots of love, a warm home, bedtime knowing tomorrow is another day of the weekend, and my best friend.

These are the days I will remember. On Monday.

Welcome, October

I'm so happy to see you. I love October. It brings promise of fall, promise of holidays, promise of calm. October gets overlooked because everyone looks forward to November. And December. Me included.
But October is special. This year, I am going to appreciate October and all of its blessings.

J is home!
I successfully started my first IV
Emma has managed to stretch her last bone over multiple days
I got to have Starbucks... with my mom
It rained
Luigi assisted me in typing
I straightened my hair
October 23rd marks halfway through 2nd semester
The sweetest "welcome home from clinical" hug from J
And again, most importantly,
J is home!!

Let's go for the crazy roll

Last weekend we celebrated Carly's 19th birthday by grabbing sushi with the fam. I love my husband. I love my parents. I love my sister. I love spending time with them. I really have the best family ever.

The weather report

It has been hot and sunny for the past, oh, 200 days or so. Don't get me wrong, I am sort of getting used to the heat of my lovely little city, The Box. After 23 years :) But this morning, I awoke to a breathtaking view outside my window of ... clouds. A cloudy morning. The way it should be every morning. I love cool mornings. I got to wear sweats to walk Emma, and be comfortable. And I got to wear sweats, and feel like I was dressed perfectly.

Now it is sunny. I remind myself that God created the sun just as he created the clouds, and I am thankful for the sun. For with no sun, I would not appreciate the clouds.

Thank you Lord for cloudy mornings. And thank you for the sun.

Wake up

Emma wakes me up every morning. Unless I have to wake up before 6. I set my alarm, you know, just in case. But she is faithful. She wakes up anywhere between 6 and 7. This morning, it was 7. That is a good day. Every morning she crawls up on the bed next to me, lays down and rolls over on her back with her paws in the air and nose reaching back toward me. And I scratch her tummy. This morning she stayed in that position for 10 minutes. The thing about Emma is that she's pretty fidgety. Like, she can't hold still for more than 5, 10 seconds max. But today, it was 10 minutes. Then I let her out. Then if we have time, we come back and cuddle some more. That's when she attacks J with kisses and wakes him up. And he always says, "awww good morning Emma." This morning I realized how lucky I am. I get to wake up with my puppy and my husband every morning. These are the moments I love. Thank you Lord for mornings with my family.

Sister Sister

I really and truly have the best sister in the world. She is the most sarcastic and funny girl I know. She can make fun of me for hours while making me laugh. She is wise wise wise. Surprisingly wise. Like, she's kinda like my big sister sometimes. She tells some great stories (and don't you interrupt her when she's talking ;). She has a heart for her animals and isn't afraid to tell you just what she thinks. She's the girl I go to for the real truth, to lay out by the pool, to get coffee, to chat for 4 minutes between classes, to get ideas for dinners... for anything and everything. I love my sister more that I can explain. Happy 19th birthday Carly!!!!

In honor of her, here is a short tribute :)
